BIOGRAPHY

Here's the story of my journey into the world of songwriting...

I got into music relatively late, having been a builder for about 45 years. It’s then I decided to do something else with my life having retired. I did get the “Oh Dad” from my three daughters, but I think they were happy for me!

My first excursion into music came when I lived in the City of Valencia for a short while. Whilst there I came into contact with a young man, Didac Corbi, who mentioned he had a small recording studio. At the time I had composed a song about the love I now had for The City of Valencia. It wasn’t long before we got together to record my song.

We then contacted local radio stations in the Valencia area, resulting in me being asked to sing live. At first there was no way, because I had no experience. However, Didac talked me into it. I have to say I’m so pleased he did, because I enjoyed every minute singing live on four different radio stations. At that time I was unaware someone from the Valencia Tourist Board was listening. They asked if the song could be used on their website with the heading, “Kelvin Lynch, an Englishman, has fallen in love with our City, so he wrote a song about it”. I was thrilled to bits, me at my age!

I  suggested we make a video to accompany my song, which we duly did. We persuaded Didac’s girlfriend to dress as a clown whilst touring parts of the city, which proved to be a great success, especially with the children. At the beginning and the end of the video, we assembled children from the village of Ayora to sing us in and out. Considering it was Didac’s first adventure into filming, and mine as well, I believe it turned out very well.

Unfortunately at this time I had to return to London to take up a project, which took up a great deal of my time. It was on my return to Bristol in 2015 that I was diagnosed with Paget’s Disease. At that point I decided to totally immerse myself into my music, resulting in the recordings of “You Don’t Care”, “Yeah That’s Me”, “Love of Loves”, “Have You Ever Lied”, “Beautiful Game”,  “Don’t Knock it, Rub it, You’re Losing me Money” and “December Brings (reverie) Christmas Time”. The next step was to make contact with a cameraman, thankfully that person was a young enthusiastic person namely Richard Mann.

The first video we shot was, “Love of Loves” in the basement of Café Kino in Stokes Croft Bristol, a vegetarian outlet which suited me, because I am a veggie. It is very obvious how nervous I was during filming. However, I believe the videos are there to highlight the songs, which is more important. We were so pleased with the location at Café Kino, that we decided to film “You Don’t Care” there as well. I was very comfortable with this shoot, and I believe that comes across so well, considering it’s about how my Father abused me physically and mentally (a subject that I don’t talk about).

The third video to film “Yeah That’s Me” was the most challenging, because it meant I had to be in my bed for most of the time. Plus it took a day and a half to film, so it meant making sure all the items on the bed, were placed in the same position for Richard’s return! I had so much enjoyment making this film, because it’s a fun song. However, there is a serious message in the second verse concerning testicular cancer. It was because of this subject I was asked to appear on local TV, and I duly did. At no time did I feel nervous, and was pleased to be able to highlight this type of cancer.  I can’t take life to seriously at my age, so I like to send myself up whilst filming, I hope this comes across.

During the summer of 2017 I managed to assemble friends, and their family members together in a park to film “Beautiful Game”. The idea was for them to play with footballs, a blown up World and try to capture the essence of this song, because for the World... it’s the “Beautiful Game”! I believe this song could be massive, given the regularity of big football tournaments. There are plenty of  repetitive “ooo ooos”, “dah dahs” and “we’ve won”, making it a great singalong song, for everyone of any age at football matches worldwide. Whilst writing the lyrics, I made a point of not mentioning a club or country. When the filming was complete, it was time for me to take to the studio and film my part. Later Richard edited it into the film. Once again fun was had by all.

“Don’t Knock it, Rub it, You’re Losing me Money” was also filmed in the studio where we filmed “Beautiful Game”. This song is completely different from anything else I have composed and sung. The lyrics tell the story of a prostitute and her pimp. When ever she questions the profession she is in, the pimp retaliates with a stern “Don’t Knock it, Rub it, You’re Losing me Money” in other words get back to work. A difficult song to sing.

For “Have You Ever Lied” we agreed to film on The Downs in Bristol. I must admit I do look very melancholy whilst singing and acting this part. I am asking anyone who is listening to the song, “Have You Ever Lied?”. It’s a very thought provoking story, which I enjoyed composing.

The animation for “December Brings (Reverie) Christmas Time” was carried our by a young lad Harrison Davies. This song comes with a wonderful narrative, there is something in this story for everyone. I would suggest you listen at night to this song, you’ll be swept away in nostalgia. I also believe  “December Brings (reverie) Christmas Time, would be of great interest to advertising Companies, looking for a Christmas song with an understanding for everyone young an old.
